Colleges Against Cancer displays diabetic information at Health and Nutritional fair
Did you know that smoking has been linked with mouth, throat, pancreas, cervix, kidney and bladder cancers?
What nutritional guidelines could we all learn from diabetics? What about this — do you know what can be used as a low fat substitute in muffins, cakes and quick breads? (It’s applesauce.)
This is only a small amount of the information that was on display at the Health and Nutritional Fair that was held in the Hoke Dining Room last Monday, Sept. 30. Hosted by Colleges Against Cancer (CAC), the fair was given in hopes of creating “awareness about health and nutritional issues that affect college students,” said Kim Benfield, the co-president and founder of CAC.
The Health and Nutritional Fair had a theme of cancer, diabetes and nutritional awareness. Joining CAC for the fair was Gamma Sigma Sigma with information on the various types and care of diabetes.
According to group representative J.W. Mozely, Gamma Sigma Sigma was invited to participate in the fair by CAC because diabetes and nutrition are the two impact areas for the group this year.
The CAC had cancer information available, and there was also a table set up with nutrition and food serving size information.
The CAC hopes to continue with monthly fairs in the future, featuring more cancer information supplemented with additional nutritional issues. Besides the Health and Nutritional Fair, the CAC also does other events including Relay for Life, Youth Outreach, Great American Smokeout and Think Pink Week.
