Georgia College & State University is striving for excellence. GC&SU SAT admission requirements are on a rapid increase!
The minimum score accepted for Fall 2003 will be a combined math and verbal score of 960. Each year, the requirement will rise. In 2004, the requirement will be a 980, and in 2005, the requirement will be a whopping 1000.
So many high school seniors applied to our school in the past few years that GC&SU is raising our admission requirements and still admits the same number of students. For GC&SU to raise its standards like this, interest in our college and the number of applicants must be on a steady rise.
GC&SU already has a wonderful reputation, but by raising the standards, this university becomes so much more prestigious. Not everyone can apply and be accepted. We’re becoming more selective of our student body.
Word spreads when it comes to a university with a good reputation, especially when it comes to a unique public liberal arts university. You may not know it yet, but this will have a ripple effect. High school students interested in GC&SU will have to put more effort into academics. They might have to take the SAT more times than their older
siblings had to. Their parents will be impressed that GC&SU’s admission requirements are going up. (Parents know that’s a good sign.) Parents will send their children to GC&SU, and the parents will go to work and tell their co-workers how neat and prestigious this university is (and how much more prestigious it’s becoming). Then you apply for a job after graduating from GC&SU, and you get noticed and stand out from the other job applicants because the employer/”Head Honcho” heard someone speaking highly of this university located in Milledgeville, Ga.
You may be thinking to yourself that these score requirements aren’t that big of a deal; they’re not anywhere near as high as Princeton or Yale’s. Think back to what you made on the SAT. Would you be able to get in with that score in 2005 (with the requirement being a 1000)? Based on an average of “The Colonnade” Editorial Board’s SAT scores, the last year our SAT average would be accepted for admissions would be 2005. With our SAT scores not averaged, some editors would have high enough scores for acceptance in 2005, and some wouldn’t make the cut!
The Colonnade think it’s great that the university is raising the SAT requirements each year. It benefits everyone involved with GC&SU. Our student body will improve academically every year, which will improve our reputation.
