SGA outlines future issues

The second session meeting of the Student Government Association Wednesday covered a general overview of some of the issues including two bills for allocation of money.

“We are off to a good start,” Keith Woodruff, president of SGA told the senators. “There are important issues coming forward.”

Some of those issues include the new chalking policy, bookstore prices, emergency boxes being placed on campus and the development of a plan to provide services to disable students.

The Students Services committee is looking into the Sodexho contract with dining services. They also hope to publish a set schedule for the shuttle and set up a recycling program for Georgia College & State University.

Academic Affairs, another committee on SGA, met to discuss goals for the year. A couple of issues that they will be examining include the GPA
requirements for transfer students and the problem of plagiarism.

In old business, a bill to allocate $300 to the National Pan-Hellenic Council passed 22 to 2. This bill will provide the registration fee for two members of the council to attend the National Pan-Hellenic Regional Conference. This conference provides an opportunity for these students to develop skills in programming that they can utilize on campus to bring about unity.

Another bill came to the floor as new business. This bill is to allocate $300 for registration fees to the Association of Computing Machinery for two teams to participate in the 2002 ACM Southeast USA Programming Contest.

“This is a computer programming contest for our computer science majors to compete in that will put our name out there,” Senator Crystal Cammon said.

This bill was tabled and will be brought again to the floor during the next meeting. According to the SGA Constitution, all bills to allocate money must be tabled for one week.

“Everything is going well and there is a lot of stuff on the table” Woodruff said.

SGA meetings are held every Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Arts & Sciences Room 364. The meetings are open to the GC&SU community and students.
