Christian organizations reach out to students
Are you looking for a good Christian organization to join? If so GC&SU has a few organizations that are right up your alley.
Organizations such as Wesley House, Campus Outreach, Campus Catholics, Christian Campus Fellowship (CCF) and Baptist Student Union (BSU) meet at various times and have tons of fun planned activities for all students here at GC&SU.
The United Methodist Campus Ministry also known, as the Wesley House, is open to all students no matter what denomination you claim. The Wesley House meets every Wednesday night in the MSU lounge.
“We have a praise band, play games and just have fun,” said Bill Baker, the coordinator of the Wesley House.
After they worship, sing songs and play games, everyone heads over to the Wesley house, which is located behind the volley ball courts near Napier to hang out and have fellowship with friends.
Singing songs and playing games are not the only things that students get to do with Wesley House. There are Mission Projects every month and other fun activities planned such as trips to concerts and Braves
games.
The Wesley House just took a trip to the Braves game last Thursday night with fifteen students. Freshman Karen Farmer said
“We had a blast, we only paid three dollars and got some great seats.”
The Wesley House also takes two retreats a year, one in the fall and one
in the spring. This year for spring break the Wesley House will be going to Philadelphia.
If you would like to learn more about the Wesley House you can reach them by e-mail at wesleyhouse@yahoo.com or by contacting the Wesley House at 452-9112.
Campus Outreach and Campus Catholics are two other religious organizations here on campus. Both are open to all students of any denomination. Campus Outreach has regular meetings on Tuesday evenings and Bible studies in residence halls, fraternities, sororities and athletic teams. Campus Catholics has bimonthly meetings on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. They have a dinner social following the 5:30 p.m. Mass every second Wednesday, and there is a planned discussion and study at 8:00 p.m.on every fourth Wednesday.
Another organization is Christian Campus Fellowship. They meet every Thursday night at First Christian Church for bible study and every Monday morning at FCC for prayer breakfast. “Christian Campus Fellowship offers spiritual growth and discipleship with Christ, fellowship and fun. CCF is open to all students here at GC&SU.
“We have grown considerably over the three years that we have been in existence on this campus,” said Dave Lenhardt CCF campus minister.
“We have many different activities planned for this year including habitat for humanity and volunteer work with the Oconee Pregnancy Center.”
If you would like to find out more about Christian Campus Fellowship, you can visit their web site at www.gcsuccf.org or contact Dave Lenhardt at (478) 454-8654.
One other big organization is Baptist Student Union (BSU), which is also open to all students. BSU is involved in a number of activities including Synergy which is a weekly worship gathering on Tuesday nights at 8:00 p.m. in the Arts & Sciences Auditorium. Students are also able to get involved with small group bible studies. However, this is not all that BSU does.
“They take part in various missions and ministry activities and participate in a full range of intramural sports,” Mitch Wesley BSU Advisor said. “We believe that in addition to growing academically, students need to grow emotionally and spiritually.”
For more information about Baptist Student Union call Mitch Wesley at 452-4008, or e-mail him at mwesley@hom.net.
Each of these organizations is always open to new comers. They all want to give every student here at GC&SU the chance to participate and have fun, in hopes that you will have a chance to grow as an individual.
