Bennett brings Middle Georgia ties to New York
If you felt that God was calling you to move nearly a thousand miles away from your home, would you do it?
Will Bennett, an alumnus of Georgia College & State University with a bachelor’s degree in mass communication and master’s in business administration, answered that call and moved from Macon, Ga. to Long Island, N.Y. to become a youth minister. He is an assistant teacher for the Levittown Baptist Church’s High School sunday school class. He is also the founder of the Macon An Impact ministry.
The Macon An Impact ministry is a “non-profit Christian organization that is truly a vision from the Holy Spirit,” said Bennett, who provides weekly themed daily devotionals for the Macon An Impact website. He also writes “three columns each week dealing with national news stories impacting the lives of America’s youth.”
According to Bennett these columns, written from a Christian perspective, provide “commentary of .news event(s) and show the relationship of the story to scriptures in the Bible.”
Bennett seems to be just the type of person who would start such an organization.
“Growing up in Georgia, I assumed most children had a similar (Christian) upbringing. But when I arrived on Long Island.it really broke my heart (to discover that many teenagers there had never been exposed to the Christian truth of salvation).”
“I realized God was calling me into ministry as early as February, but it wasn’t till July that I finally accepted His calling. If creating a Christian youth organization was what God wanted me to do while I was in New York then I needed to do that,” he said.
With the Macon An Impact organization, Bennett speaks to churches once or twice a month, in addition to teaching a youth Sunday school class.
“Speaking to Christian groups.is something that we plan on doing in the future as opportunities become available,” he said. “(It) is certainly something that we are interested in and (are) eagerly awaiting .those opportunities to present themselves.”
Even though he lives in New York, Bennett still keeps ties to the Middle Georgia region. For example, on Sunday, Sept. 22, Bennett spoke at Houston Heights Baptist Church in Macon.
While in college, Bennett also served as Managing Editor of the Colonnade for a nine-month term.
“I am proud to be a GC&SU alumnus, and (am) looking forward to returning to the campus one day,” he said. “I would enjoy returning to Milledgeville and speaking at churches in the area as well as campus organizations. GC&SU will always be a special place to me.”
