Have you heard the news? Downtown Milledgeville is getting two new restaurants! Isn’t that great? Of course, we love Amici, The Brick, Buffington’s, Brewers, Julian’s and Pueblas, but we certainly could use a little more variety and have some more dining options downtown.
Coming soon to Milledgeville are Locos Deli & Pub and Mellow Mushroom!
Locos Deli & Pub, a franchise that originated in Athens, Ga. right next to the University of Georgia campus, will have a giant selection to pick and choose from once it arrives in Milledgeville. From a Bayou Burger to a Chicken Parmesan sandwich, Locos has a huge burger and sandwich selection, along with great lists of appetizers, salads and desserts! You can find a college student’s favorite–chicken wings–at Locos. Locos is a laid-back place. Jeans, shorts and t-shirt are the dress. The prices are moderate, so it won’t cost you too much.unless you take advantage of the pub part of Locos!
Even though we can already eat pizza at Amici and The Brick, Mellow
Mushroom will give us a different place to go. It has been described as a “relaxed and eclectic atmosphere.” If you’ve ever been in a Mellow Mushroom (it’s a very popular restaurant all over the Southeast), you know what they mean by “eclectic.” Here, you will be able to enjoy a variety of pizzas like the Mega-Veggie, the Mighty Meat and the Hawaiian. It’s not just a pizza place though–Mellow Mushroom has a gigantic selection of hoagies, calzones and salads, etc. And you don’t have to get too spruced up to dine at Mellow Mushroom; jeans are fine. Dining at the Mellow Mushroom won’t break you–the prices are pretty reasonable. Also, some Mellow Mushrooms have delivery. Our Pizza Hut’s delivery just doesn’t cut it sometimes. (They always forget to bring the two liter of Pepsi!). Let’s hope Mellow Mushroom decides to deliver!
Locos and Mellow Mushroom are already located in downtown Athens, and both are heavily frequented by UGA students.
Downtown Athens is so vibrant day and night. UGA students could spend an entire Saturday or Sunday window-shopping and bumping around Athens’ blocks of downtown. In the evenings, it could take all night to decide where to do dinner because there is such a selection of restaurants. And the cool thing is that all of downtown is catered to the students of UGA.
Lots of GC&SU students complain that there’s nothing to do in Milledgeville on the weekends, and there’s this notion that everyone scoots out of town to go to home, leaving Milledgeville a ghost town. Wouldn’t it be cool if Milledgeville had a downtown that you and your pals could spend a whole afternoon browsing around shopping and eating and hanging out? Athens has all kinds of clothing stores, outdoorsy stores, jewelry stores, book stores, candy stores and shoe stores. If we had more shops, more restaurants, coffee shops and maybe even a putt-putt course downtown, those would for sure give us more to do on the weekends and make the students who frequently leave stay!
We at the Colonnade think it’s great that Locos and Mellow Mushroom are coming to the ‘Ville. It’s awesome because, with these additions, our downtown is definitely improving, giving us more to do and more places to go. These will add some flavor to Milledgeville.
