David is goliath
Twenty-five miles away from Milledgeville, Ga. is a sleepy little town called Sandersville, where golf extraordinaire, David Robinson, 21, was raised.
While attending Brentwood High School, he earned All-State and All-Regional honors four times and was voted the team’s Most Valuable Player four times. He also aided his team in winning the region championship three times and was runner-up at the state tournament
three times.
After graduating from Brentwood in 1999, he came to Georgia College &
State University as a freshman. He then pursued a major in business administration. Swinging the clubs is nothing new to Mr. Robinson. He’s been playing golf for well over 13 years now. When he’s not on the back nine, he enjoys fishing.
The four-year veteran described how he prepares mentally for a game.
“Before I tee off, I try to have no expectations of how I’m going to do,” Robinson said. “I’ve learned that the worst thing you can do is to expect what the outcome will be.”
Robinson’s technique must work like a charm. Last year in a tournament held at Port Armor, he shot three birdies in a row. followed by a hole in one.
Accomplishments are fiercely beginning to fall Robinson’s way. For the past two years, he was the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year. He also earned Third Team All-American honors. He played in the NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament with GC&SU. He also displayed his skills at the U.S. Amateur Tournament and won the Georgia Junior Championship.
Robinson posted 12 top twenty finishes in 13 tournaments last year. He won medalist honors twice. He also led the team with a 73.00 stroke average.
Improving each year, Robinson looks to capture the only accolade that has eluded him.a national championship.
“I think we have a better team now than ever,” Robinson said. “This year, we have more solid players. I’m waiting for the National Championship.”
After graduation, he’s planning on beginning a professional golf career. His ambitions are high and his talent is strong.
