See it, hear it, eat it coming Sept. 17, 18

The Georgia College & State University Mass Communication program’s Special Events Planning Class is sponsoring two fundraisers next week to benefit Mediafest 2002, an event for high school students interested in mass communication.

The first fundraiser is a used CD, DVD, cassette and VHS sale that will be held on Sept. 17 & 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Arts & Sciences Fountain on the GC&SU campus. The second fundraiser will be held on Sept. 19, starting at midnight by the Old Courthouse. At this time, students will be selling hot dogs and soft drinks.

Students in the mass communication program have donated various CDs, DVDs, and VHS tapes for the sale on Tuesday and Wednesday. People can come to the sale to find some popular and well-known artists and movies for a very good price. A bake sale will also take place at this time. For anyone who stays up late on Thursday night and might be hungry, the hot dog sale can be a tasty treat.

“The purpose of these fundraisers is to raise money to fund Mediafest,” Megan Spears, member of the class said. “You should support these events because the mass communications program is the fastest growing program on campus and you can get some really cool CDs.”

Mediafest 2002 will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 19 and is an event that serves as a recruitment tool for GC&SU. High school students are invited to attend and learn about various opportunities that a Mass Communication degree can provides. Speakers from the career field come and speak. Students also have the chance to see the campus of GC&SU. This successful event has also received recognition as the Outstanding Non-SABC funded event at the 2001-2002 Bobcat Awards.
