Kappa Sigma to hold 9-11 memorial service.

The Kappa Sigma fraternity has plans to commemorate the first anniversary of September 11.

Kappa Sigma will honor the heroes and remember the victims of September 11, 2001, along with the participation of Dr. Rosemary DePaolo, the Georgia College & State University jazz band, the Milledgeville Fire Department, the city and county police departments, the GC&SU Public Safety and other student organizations such as Gamma Sigma Sigma, international students and Wesley House representatives.

“We would like to remember the people who died and honor the heroes,” Trevor Malcolm, a member of Kappa Sigma, said. “Kappa Sigma lost a good many of our fraternity brothers in the attacks last year.”

“We can’t take our freedom for granted,” Tate Parker, another member of Kappa Sigma, said. “We have to appreciate what we have here in America.”

Before the ceremony, there will be a moment of silence at 8:48 a.m. The names of the 3,000 victims of the terrorist attacks last September 11 will be read after the moment of silence until 11:30 a.m.

The ceremony will then begin at noon Wednesday, September 11 on front campus with patriotic music from the GC&SU jazz band. Throughout the ceremony, police, firefighters, and students will give personal testimonies of how September 11th changed everything. The ceremony will close with the brothers of the Kappa Sigma fraternity dedicating a monument that sits in front of Bell Hall to the victims and heroes of the attacks.

Kappa Sigma invites all members of the GC&SU community to join them in a reflection of last year’s events.

“Everyone can attend,” Malcolm said. “People can stop by before class and after class.”

“We want to get everyone involved,” Parker said. “We were all affected by September 11th.”
