Eddie Campbell, a player for Georgia College & State University, is making a lot of noise this season.
Campbell comes to the Bobcats from Georgia Perimeter College, where he played for Head Coach David Stephenson. As a sophomore, under Stephenson, Campbell earned All-Region honors. Campbell graduated from Parkview High School where he earned the Panther award.
Campbell wanted to come to GC&SU for the strong baseball program here.
“It has a strong baseball program and team. It is also a good academic school,” said Campbell.
Campbell has many goals off the baseball field, which include keeping strong grades as well as staying on top of things in his classes. Campbell enjoys fishing, hiking and camping in his spare time.
“I would love for the team to win the National and Regional Championships,” said Campbell on his team goals for the season. “But then again those are every team’s goals.”
Campbell is a junior at GC&SU, and he has many plans after graduation.
“I want to graduate with a degree in History. I want to coach college baseball and eventually go back and get my master’s in education.”
As of Monday of this week, Campbell is currently hitting .362 (third on the team), and he is sixth on the team in hits with 34, fifth on the team in doubles (5), he has one home run and 18 RBI’s. Campbell has been able to show off his speed the entire season, as he has yet to hit into a double play. His defense has also been outstanding the whole year after having just three errors in 162 put outs this season.
“I absolutely love the game as well as having a close team and good friends,” said Campbell on what he thinks about baseball in general. “It also keeps me active, self motivated, and it is very rewarding in many ways.”
Working hard on and off the field is not easy for Campbell, but he is able to manage everything quite well.
“My typical day as a baseball player includes breakfast, class, work study on the baseball field, practice and sleep. On Thursday nights I always make time to attend CCF,” stated Campbell.
Even though he is having a terrific season, Campbell still thinks there is room for improvement.
“I need to always work on catching, improve my defensive skills, and hit better,” said Campbell.
Campbell is one determined Bobcat both on and off the field; which has lead to all the success he already has achieved this season.
The Bobcats and Campbell will be in action this weekend in Jacksonville, Fl. as they battle their rival North Florida. GC&SU will be back home April 16, agianst Paine College. The game against Paine College will start a four game homestead, which will come to a close as the Bobcats and Campbell take on Lander.
