Who is headlining BAVA

BAVA Fest 2002 is set for Friday, April 12. The green lawn at GC&SU’s West Campus will turn into a venue for headliners Edwin McCain and B.G. from Cash Money Millionaires. Other bands to perform are Davis St., SMO and the Scott Little Band.
The winner of the Battle of the Bands at Spring Fling will open the show at 5 p.m. Bands will play consecutively until about midnight. In addition to music, BAVA will offer more of a festival-type atmosphere with inflatables, crafts, food and vendors.
“Students can expect some great music, fun attractions and delicious food,” Eddie Howard, Director of Student Activities, said.
As always, coolers are allowed at the festival as long as no glass bottles or containers are brought in. There will be a shuttle that will run from the Centennial Center to West Campus the entire evening.
Tickets for BAVA will go on sale April 1st. Tickets for the event are $12 plus tax for students and $15 for non-students. Students can purchase tickets at the Business Office in Parks Hall. Tickets bought the day of the event will be $15 for everyone.
Tickets at the non-student price can be purchased online at www.ticketweb.com.
A dollar from each ticket sold will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House, the charity chosen to be supported at BAVA. Information about the Ronald McDonald House will be available at the festival.
“I am very pleased with the selection of the Ronald McDonald House. Our goal this year was to expand the selection of the charity sponsorship by giving students an opportunity to submit proposals. The goal is to bring about awareness of social issues,” Howard said.
Many of the bands that students voted for at Midnight Breakfast were unable to come, but Howard worked with students to find a variety of performers.
“We reviewed the list that was generated at Midnight Breakfast this fall and tried to stick with the choices we were given, but after most of the people were either unavailable or too expensive, we took suggestions from the students on the Band Selection Committee. These students approved the final decision,” Howard said.
This festival will be the third year of BAVA, short for Bands, Activists, Vendors and Artists. Artists such as Run DMC, Drivin n’ Cryin and Cowboy Mouth have played at BAVA in the past. Thousands of students and local music fans from all over Georgia have come to BAVA the past two years.
“Out of all the events Student Activities puts on, I hear about BAVA and new ideas for the event every day,” Howard said. “We have put a lot of work into this, and students have been stopping by asking questions, so I am certain we will have a great crowd.”
BAVA staff still needs many volunteers to work during BAVA. Volunteers get a free ticket and a free t-shirt. To volunteer call 445-4027. For more information about BAVA, go to www.gcsu.edu/bava.
