Both of Georgia College & State University’s tennis teams are finally ranked in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.
The rankings, which came out earlier in the week, had the women ranked 13th and the men ranked 33rd.
The Bobcats (11-6, 5-3 PBC) are one of nine Peach Belt Conference teams ranked in the poll, including five in the top twenty-five. Armstrong Atlantic State is the top ranked team in the country, while North Florida is ninth, and Clayton State is tenth. Kennesaw State is ranked 21st. Columbus State is 27th, and USC Spartanburg is 28th. Francis Marion and UNC Pembroke are ranked 35th and 36th respectively.
The Bobcats have gotten great play from everyone, but two players have stuck out the entire year–Julia Roudkovsaya and freshman Annika Persson.
Roudkovsaya, a senior, has led the GC&SU women’s team in victories this season with 14. She is currently posting a 14-2 (.875) record in singles play and is 8-1 (.889) in doubles matches this year. Roudkovsaya is currently ranked #6 in the nation and looking for more.
Persson has played outstanding the entire season; she is only one win off of Roundkovsaya for the team lead. Currently at 13-2 (.867), she has made a lot of heads spin this season. She teams with Roudkovsaya, making the two girls the best doubles team here at GC&SU. Persson, one of only four freshmen on the team, is currently ranked 27th in the nation.
The men are ranked 33rd in the poll and have played better as the season has progressed. The Bobcats are one of nine Peach Belt Conference teams ranked in the top forty. North Florida is ninth and also is the highest ranked PBC men’s team. Francis Marion and Lander follow at #10 and #11 respectively in the poll. USC Spartanburg is #17; Armstrong Atlantic State is #19. Columbus State is 38th in the poll, while Augusta State and USC Aiken are tied for 40th.
Both tennis teams will have their work cut out for them as the teams get ready for the PBC championships.
Come out and support your Bobcats as they try to climb up the national tennis rankings.
