New West Campus apartments to be ready during Spring semester 2002

Special to the Colonnade

How does maid service, 20 percent off regular student housing prices and access to a pool sound? These are just a few of the perks that upcoming sophomores, juniors and seniors will receive if they accept the offer for the new West Campus apartments.
Since the new apartment village will not be ready until December 2002, GC&SU University Housing is asking students to live in the Ramada Limited or Days Inn hotels for the fall semester of 2002. Students will have full-size beds, twenty percent off housing prices, weekly maid service and full use of the hotel pool.
They will also receive 10 percent off the rent for the next six months once they move into the new apartments. The new residents will sign a one-time six-month lease from January to through June with an option to stay through July for an additional fee. The regular leases will run from August to August.
The apartments on West Campus are part of an overall plan to increase the amount of housing at GC&SU. At the same time the apartments are being built on West Campus, new suite-style residence halls will be built in the Centennial Center area.
Eventually, Adams, Napier, Wells and Parkhurst Halls will be demolished and replaced with new facilities. Sanford Hall will be renovated. All halls in the Centennial block will be suite-style with two rooms sharing a bathroom.
The new apartments will have four private bedrooms with two baths for $425 per student per month or two private bedrooms with two bath at $450 per student. Utilities will be included in the price of rent in addition to free HBO, free Internet and a security panic button in each apartment.
Each apartment will be fully furnished with full-size beds, spacious closet and a full kitchen. There will be gated parking, a community center equipped with laundry facilities and a pool. The students will have access to a free shuttle between main campus and West campus. Registration for the apartments will be open first to current on-campus residents. It will begin on March 18 at 7 a.m. and last until 1 p.m., at which point it will be open as well to off-campus student residents, who will need to make a $100 registration deposit. Registration will last until 6 p.m.
The following day, March 19, a sign-up will be held for housing on the main campus. The University Housing staff is meeting with current residents to give details about the fall sign-up. For more information, call University Housing’s Apartment Hotline at (478) 445-5924.
