On Valentine’s day the women’s tennis team lost its second straight match as they fell to Emory 5-4. After Clayton State beat the Bobcats, the team was hoping for better results against Clarke Atlanta University and got it. Both the men’s and women’s tennis teams won, which ended a three-game losing streak for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats (2-3, 1-1 PBC) crashed Clarke Atlanta, winning every match for the 9-0 victory. The doubles team of Julia Roudkovskaya and Annika Persson got the team off on the right start after defeating CAU’s Chanel Brown and Neiger Green 8-1. In the next match, the Bobcats sent Karin Ramstrom and Jodie Lobsiger to play Autumn Williams and Kamilah Smith. Both teams played really well, but in the end, GC&SU was just too strong, winning the match 8-4. In the third doubles match-up, Kremena Vessileva and Elizabeth Williams won their first doubles match of the season against Laurel Elliott and A. Brooks.
In singles play, GC&SU made short work of Clarke Atlanta. Roudkovskaya and Ramstrom each shut out their opponents with easy 6-0 victories. Then Persson dominated Clarke’s Smith 6-1, 6-0 while GC&SU’s fourth ranked singles player Lobsiger also won convincingly over Green 6-1, 6-1. Vassileva defeated Williams 6-2, 6-2, and Elizabeth Williams, capping off the day with a great come from behind victory, 5-7, 6-0, 6-0.
The men have started this season hot. With four wins in five games, the Bobcats are looking for more. The men made easy work of Clarke Atlanta by also sweeping them 9-0.
Florian Hieber and Chris McConnachie defeated CAU’s doubles team of David Nduwayo and Mark Eubanks 8-0. GC&SU’s James Gorin and Jamie Stanford followed with a 8-1 victory, putting the Bobcats quickly up 2-0. Then Mikael Pettersson and Thomas Hemmestad won by default, tallying yet another GC&SU win.
The Bobcats remained in control as Thomas Karlsson defeated Clarke’s Ndwayo 6-3, 6-2. Then it was Pettersson’s turn, and he drilled Eubanks 6-2, 6-4. Then GC&SU’s Per Schartum-Hansen blanked Mitchell 6-0, 6-0. The Bobcats were then winning 6-0 and ended Clarke Atlanta’s hope for an upset. GC&SU’s Alex Beauregard and Hemmestad won easily with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Hieber won GC&SU’s last singles match by default.
