Library construction continues

Library construction continues to be on schedule at Georgia College & State University, though weather conditions have caused some slowdowns.
“Phase I is to be completed around February of next year,” said Bill Richards, University Librarian and Associate Professor. “We should be moving in and opening the new construction by then.”
Phase I, if everyone remembers, is the actual completion of most of the new construction. Everyone should keep in mind that the new library will boast 93,000 square feet and will be wired for new data, power and video technology.
Bad weather has plagued GC&SU’s construction team during the past few weeks, but Mark Bowen, Georgia College & State University’s Project Manager for the Library Project, still sounded very positive about the progress of the construction despite the weather delays.
“Everything is on schedule for now,” said Bowen. “We have had some inclement weather that has caused us to postpone construction at times, but so far everything is running smoothly.”
Some general sawing and nailing are being done to the eastern wall for the library addition, and the majority of the demolition work is finished. Concrete pouring and footings have been laid to begin the foundation of some of the new library sections. All in all, the construction team is moving along very nicely despite the bad weather.
“We should be able to set foot in the new library as early as spring of next year,” said Richards.
Richards would also like to point out that the progress of the library construction can be seen anytime day or night by accessing the college’s website. Pictures of the site are taken periodically during the day and night and can be seen via a webcam.
