Jocelyn Lakani, a multi-talented GC&SU student from Riverwoods, Il., was recruited to play softball for the Lady Bobcats by the former head softball coach.
Lakani attended Deerfield High School where she earned All-Lake Shore honors, MVP and Best Defender honors, as well as the Hustle Award.
Starting out at GC&SU as a softball player, Lakani soon realized she was very talented in basketball as well. During Lakani’s sophomore year at GC&SU, she played both basketball and softball. Her love for softball prevailed, and she returned her junior year solely as a softball player.
“I love my fellow softball teammates,” Lakani said.
Lakani moved from shortstop to outfield last season, while playing in 21 games and starting 19 of them. She ranks fourth on the team in hitting with a .309 average.
“My personal goal is to continue batting over 300,” said Lakani.
As far as team goals go, Lakani has full faith that her team will “win the Peach Belt Conference.”
Lakani excels as a student as well as an athlete. She was named to the Dean’s List and the Peach Belt Presidential Honor Roll for the second time in three years last year. Lakani is a history major at GC&SU. Graduating in May, Lakani plans on becoming a history teacher and coaching softball.
This season Lakani has already played great. Batting .318 with a double and team-leading two triples. She also is currently second on the team in slugging percentage with a .545 percentage.
“I look forward to becoming a coach, because it will allow me to pass on my knowledge of softball to others,” said Lakani.
In Lakani’s free time she enjoys seeing movies, listening to music, sleeping and keeping in touch with her mom, the person she most admires!
Look for Lakani and the rest of the Lady Bobcats to knock down their Peach Belt Conference the rest of the season.
