Chappell hitting with a vengeance

Hailing from Adelaide, Australia, third baseman Jon Chappell has been a solid player for the Bobcats’ baseball team.
Last season Chappell showed everyone his determination and love for the game when he started 36 games for the Bobcats in spite of two injuries. Chappell posted a .344 batting average in 22 Peach Belt games and a .279 overall average for the season with eight multi-hit games.
Chappell graduated from Narrabundah College in Canberra, Australia. He attended Lake City Community College in Florida, where he played for two years under Coach Tom Clark.
His biggest thrill in sports so far was being chosen to try out for the Australian National Team. Chappell is a senior and a business major. He came to Georgia College & State University two years ago because of its academic and athletic reputation and hasn’t looked back since.
” I love it. I don’t see anywhere else I would want to play at the moment, college wise,” said Chappell.
A plan for bigger leagues in the future perhaps? We’ll see.
This season has proven to be a success so far for Chappell and the Bobcats. In just 14 games, Chappell has provided a .423 batting average, 5 homeruns, 26 RBIs and a whopping .885 slugging percentage. Chappell contributes his early season success to a little old-fashioned hard work.
“My pre-season schedule has helped,” said Chappell. “Working through the fall, working hard, getting in the weight room and getting stronger. Just going out there and being aggressive.”
The Bobcats are showing yet another season of traditional winning.
“We’ve got a lot of depth this year,” said Chappell. “We’ve got really good pitching and all-around good team play at the moment.”
The loss of a few of their individual players last year was a shock to some of the team, and the players were a little unsure of how they would rebound from the loss.
It seems as though Head Coach Steve Mrowka and the Bobcats have found a way. The team is 14-0 on the season, and they are looking stronger every game.
“We’ve had a pretty good start; I’m looking forward to the rest of the season,” said Chappell.
