Starting Feb. 22-23, the office of Information & Instructional Technology will start offering students a recreational and competitive opportunity to use the existing technology on campus.
On Feb. 23 the OIIT, will start holding Quake 3 capture the flag tournaments in makeshift computer labs in the Centennial Center.
“We have been very fortunate to have the tech fees to fund these tournaments, and the students that work as lab techs this semester to help us out with the planning,” said Jim Wolfgang, Chief Information Officer for the office of informational and instructional technology. “We want to eventually broaden these events into monthly occurrences, with the types of games offered, and the types of tournaments varying month to month.
The tournaments will consist of teams of five players each and they will compete against each other. In order to win a match, a team must win two out of three games. Each game that is played will be timed, and the alliance mod will be used.
The tournaments will be open to all GC&SU students and faculty who wish to participate. “Prizes will be awarded to the winning team, although the actual specifics on the prizes have yet to be revealed,” said Zac Ray of the GC&SU OIIT department. “This event is free to students and faculty with proper identification, and there will be a web page built, and there will be flyers passed around campus with more detailed information about rules and prizes.”
