A new and exciting event is coming to Georgia College & State University soon.
“Hooked on Love,” a romantic comedy to be performed by the Pin Point Theatre performers, will be presented to students and the general public in the Arts and Sciences Auditorium on Thursday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m.
The play definitely caters to the current atmosphere of Valentine’s Day. It is centered around “the hilarious changes people endure for romance and the chance to be with ‘that special someone.”‘
La-Retha Spain-Shuler, director of Multicultural Affairs, is very excited about the coming attraction.
“We wanted to bring something fun and different to GC&SU and present a kind of comic relief about things that go on. I want people to really have a good time and see that people can have relationships and still remain friends,” said Spain-Shuler.
The Pin-Point Theatre performers are being presented by Lost Link Enterprises, an outside agency contracted by GC&SU to perform the production. The duo, comprised of Shydi Evans and Char Bel, has been together for 16 years and has performed at more than 2,300 schools across the country.
They have been applauded for their excellence by such prestigious names as the Smithsonian Institute and the D.C. Commission of Arts. In this particular performance, they portray Rico and Kim, a couple who experience many of the ups and downs that occur in relationships. Though the couple does this with a comedic twist, they also focus on more serious issues such as self-respect and having respect for others.
Spain-Shuler said that this play not only relates to romance but can also be applied to our everyday relationships with others and the possibility that things may not always work out.
“I hope that the play will show students that we can walk away and be mature enough in our relationships not to frown upon someone else,” said Spain-Shuler.
“Hooked on Love” is sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs. Co-sponsors include the Arts Unlimited Committee, the Black Student Alliance, the Campus Activities Board, Student Affairs and the Minority Advising Program.
Spain-Shuler said that so far students have given her a lot of positive feedback about the idea of the play. She said that she is excited about the quality of the performance and the fact that this play is a little different than those usually performed at GC&SU. It should be a unique performance that all students can benefit from and enjoy. Spain-Shuler said that her main hope is that the play will bring some “laughter and fun” to the ever-present subject of relationships.
General Admission will be $3, while admission for GC&SU students will be $1. For more information, students may contact The Office of Multicultural Affairs.
