Empty hole on front campus still unaddressed

The equipment is gone, maintenance workers have moved on to other projects and, for the most part, the “beautification” of front campus is complete. However, many students and faculty members have questions concerning what will come of the still empty hole that lies where the sidewalks crossing front campus meet.
According to Harry Keim, vice president of business and finance, that question remains unanswered.
Keim said that the initial plan was to decorate the circle with flowers but that students complained that flower bed would interfere with sports and other activities enjoyed on the grassy lawn.
After learning of this conflict from President Rosemary DePaolo, Keim said that thoughts turned to placing a granite university logo or bobcat head in the circle.
“The bobcat head would have been engraved and would have cost over $14,000,” Keim said. “I couldn’t see
spending that much money on it, so we put the project on hold.”
At this time, there are no working ideas for this project, but Keim said that he is open to ideas from any student and faculty member.
Dave Gloseclose, senior director for facilities, said that the empty hole is the only project that has been abandoned due to lack of funding.
He said he hopes someone will introduce a workable idea because he sees the hole as “a little bit of a liability problem” and the site of a potential accident.
