It’s Time for the annual Hew-Haw Hootenanny

By Paige Harrison
Staff Writer

The 3rd annual Hootenanny, performed by the GC&SU English, Speech and Journalism Department, will take place Friday, Jan. 25. The “Sing-a-long” will begin at 8p.m. in the Arts & Sciences Auditorium.
The Hootenanny was an idea of Wayne Glowka’s, an experienced musician and English professor, three years ago. It includes skits, songs and parodies of popular cultural artifacts, of which will be performed by faculty, staff and students.
Dr. Amy Burt, a professor in the Department of English, Speech and Journalism, had many good things to say about the Hootenanny.
“It’s a blend of Hee-Haw, Saturday Night Live and Masterpiece Theatre,” Burt said.
The event is performed for fun, but donations for scholarships are accepted. This department is the only one on campus to do such an event.
“The Hootenanny is an opportunity for us to come together as a faculty and do something just for the sheer joy of the thing,” Burt said. “Most of what we do is about teaching, this is about having a good time. That’s important, too,” Burt said.
Many acts will take place, and it is possible that your favorite teacher may be involved, so come out and show your support.
