The Fifth annual Georgia College & State University Student Interdisciplinary Research Conference will take place at GC&SU on March 20, and students and faculty are encouraged to submit proposals for the conference.
The Interdisciplinary Research Conference provides students with an opportunity to display their scholastic achievements and to receive printed recognition for work completed at GC&SU. The Student Research Committee invites proposals for competitive papers, programs, thematic panels, interactive sessions, poster sessions, creative presentations and special presentations. The submission deadline is January 31, 2002.
This year, every student who submits a paper to the conference will have a chance to see his or her published work featured in “The Corinthian,” the journal of student research at GC&SU. “The Corinthian” will be published later this spring.
Dr. Amy Burt, assistant professor of speech communication and the editor of “The Corinthian,” strongly believes in the Interdisciplinary Research Conference.
“By participating, students have a chance to get recognized for what they are studying at GC&SU,” Burt said. “It is an opportunity for students to show others what they have accomplished.”
The conference will take place earlier than usual because many of the students who will present on March 20 will also be presenting in regional competitions within their selected fields. Students will also receive the benefit of participating in a workshop to prepare them for regional competitions.
“This conference really connects with Georgia College & State University’s liberal arts mission, because we are not trying to get students to memorize facts, we are teaching students to be life-long learners,” Dr, Robin Harris, Director of the Office of Experimental Learning, said. “For students to be able to interact with others in their field and to have life-long learning experiences is what the conference is all about.”
