A change may occur for The Pit and The Ice Box to a better dining facility.

The Pit and The Ice Box ice cream shop in Maxwell Student Union may be moving to bigger and better facilities.
Plans are in the works to expand and relocate both of these restaurants, though a starting date has not been decided. Both establishments have been growing in popularity with students over the recent years.
According to Roger Busby, general manager of Sodehxo, the possibility of moving would mean more room for students.
“The main reason for a possible relocation would be that popularity has outgrown the current space, and an overall move would increase student volume,” said Busby.
As with most new facilities, equipment improvements are an enticing factor in the relocation plans. The new facilities will hold new equipment for the kitchen and the dining area.
“The new location would have hood systems, a small flat grill and Hotwell serving units,” said Busby.
Busby added that The Ice Box would gain more exposure from the move.
“The ice cream shop would further be exposed; we would like to extend the serving counter to allow more space for students,” he said.
The possibility of relocating has Pit employees excited about improvements for students.
“The move will give us better student turnout, it will be better for business, and there will be more room for students to enjoy eating,” said Chandra Biggins, a cashier at The Pit.
Tracy Gordon, who is a lead attendant for The Pit, is described by Busby as “one of the backbones in our operation,” seemed positive about a possible move.
“Moving the Pit would be better for employees, because we would have more space to work. The move will be better for business because we’ll have more room, which means we’ll have more customers,” said Gordon.
While the idea of a bigger Pit and Ice Box will benefit students, faculty, staff and employees, the plans are preliminary.
