The Voice

It seems to be easy to talk about myself around friends, however, when it comes to writing it down on paper, for everyone to read, it becomes very hard. So here goes. Hello everyone, my name is Windy Marie Caviness, and I am “The Voice” for this school year.

My involvement here at college has mainly been with a particular sorority, so this year as a 5th year senior, I wanted to get more involved with Mass Communication, my major. I wanted to get more involved with the major after going with an awesome trip to Costa Rica on a study aboard program. Do not think you cannot afford it; I did, and I am not wealthy by any means. With this trip, I met some great people, (Kesha Evans, Rebecca Merschat, Jennifer Evans, Byron Barteaux, Stephen Kirkley, Paige Harrison, and April Whirley) whom I cherish now back at Georgia College & State University.

However, there are two people I must express gratitude to from that trip, the first being Professor Jared Johnson. If you are a mass communication student or any other major for that matter, take a class with this man; he is smart, very funny, and has a heart of gold. He is a professor everyone should get to know on a personal level. The second is my boyfriend and love of my life, Ryan A. Schomber. He is the Sports Editor for The Colonnade and is one of the biggest reasons I have worked with the paper so much this year. He is wonderful in every way possible, and I can never express my thanks to him.

After living on campus for two years, in an apartment my third and last year living in the sorority house, I thought it would be nice this year to live with three girls in a house off campus. My roommates are Nikki Black and Kristin Hughes, who are both softball players for GC&SU, and Jamie Eady who is a ballet minor and in the upcoming “Nutcracker” presentation on campus.

When “The Voice” was presented to campus in the first issue, I knew I wanted to write it; this was new, and I could take it wherever I wanted to go. There was no set standard yet. With no Colonnade experience, there was doubt in my editorial writing abilities; however, with 10 under my belt, I feel confident in the semester to come. I feel “The Voice” has been a great success, and I hope everyone has enjoyed it so far. I look forward to several more after Christmas break. On that note, have a happy holiday and be safe. I would like to hear from students about their thoughts on these editorials.

So, please feel free to contact The Colonnade in response to “The Voice.” Send your signed letters to the editors and your voice will be heard.
