Progressive Holiday Dinner

Georgia College & State University held its annual Progressive Holiday Dinner on Wednesday. The annual event is held as a celebration of giving, sharing and fellowship among the community of GC&SU.

Dr. Bruce Harshbarger, vice president for student affairs and dean of students, states that the event is now in its 9th year.

“This is one of my favorite events of the year,” Harshbarger said. “One of the things that I enjoy the most is when two or three students go to the same faculty member’s house a few years in a row.”

The Progressive Holiday Dinner is sponsored by the offices of Student Affairs. GC&SU faculty, staff and administrators host dinner in their homes for participating students.

Although the dinner is held at the houses of faculty, the main event begins on front campus as participants met in Hoke Dining Hall for refreshments.

Erin Foster, a freshman, attend the dinner because of the interaction with faculty offered by the university.

“This is my first year here, and I am really excited to see faculty interacting with the students on a personal level,” Foster said.

Shanna Wright, an accounting major, said that the dinner shows how hard the university strives to increasing student involvement.

“This dinner shows that Georgia College & State University is willing to incorporate its students within the system and get them involved,” Wright said.

The dinner is concluded with the participants returning to the dining hall for dessert and entertainment.

“This is an opportunity for students to be relived before exams for faculty, staff and students to get together outside of the classroom,” Harshbarger said.
