ODK inducts new members

The Georgia College & State University chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa inducted new members on Tuesday, Nov. 27.

According to www.odk.org, ODK is the national leadership honor society for college students, faculty, staff administrators and alumni. It recognizes and encourages superior scholarship, leadership and exemplary character.

The society was founded Dec. 3, 1914, at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va. Georgia College & State University’s chapter is still new, but there are already committed members. Dr. Paul Jahr, assistant vice president for student affairs, serves as the faculty secretary of ODK.

“This group of inductees represents the second class as an official circle at GC&SU,” Jahr said. “We are excited about this group. They are qualified, and we look forward to working with this talented group.”

Bill McGourik is one of the students who was recently inducted. He is a senior who is majoring in computer science. He also serves as the president of the student government association as well as a participant of other organizations. McGourik is honored to be a part of the organization.

“It is a very prestigious organization, probably one of the more prestigious groups, excluding Phi Kappa Phi. I am very proud to be an inductee of the Georgia College & State University Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa,” McGourik said.

Kim Benfield is another recent inductee who is ready to work hard to get the most out of her experience.

“I feel privileged to have been inducted into ODK. I feel that by hosting activities, such as the monthly emerging leader of the month award, as an organization we will benefit the GC&SU community,” Benfield said.

Dr. Bruce Harshbarger, vice president for student affairs and dean of students, serves as the faculty adviser. He feels the new inductees will do well in their new role.

“ODK is the highest recognition given on American college campuses for scholar-leaders. Recipients of the honor are selected as role models who make a difference on the campus, in the community, and in the classroom,” Harshbarger said. “We’re exceptionally proud of all our ODK members and initiates.”

The new members are listed below. Congratulations to all.
