From the Editors

The events that happened during the past few months have left us in a state of shock and disbelief. Sept. 11 was a day that changed everything. We are now cautious about everything we do, from flying in a plane to checking the mail.

With the season’s change, the holidays have come around, and it seems that it has lifted up our spirits. Thanksgiving is the time to be thankful for everything that we have, and it is important to do so, now more than ever.

Before Sept. 11, some of us seemed to take life for granted. We abused the little things that counted the most, but now, after the attack on Sept. 11, Americans awoke and rose to the occasion.

Over the few days that we had off for Thanksgiving vacation, I took the time to reflect on how Americans came together during the time of crisis. When the world seemed to be in a state of chaos, Americans stood strong and together held out helping hands to those who were in need.

I am not only proud to be an American, but I am also thankful. I am thankful that we have certain freedoms and will die fighting for them. I am thankful that I am a woman who is able to attend school and have a job without fear of punishment or death. I am thankful for the men and women that protect and the laws that bind. Most of all, I am thankful that we live in a country where democracy is prevalent and freedom is our right.

Though the malls will be filled with annual holiday shoppers, highways will become packed with people traveling and airports will, once again, be filled with holiday travelers, remember to always be thankful.

Be thankful for those men and women who are fighting for our freedom, and remember those who lost their lives in the attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and the passengers trapped aboard the airplanes. Remember that only a few months ago thousands of lives were lost, but be thankful for those who served. Try not to forget what we have been through, but always remember that there may be more to come.

Although it may be hard for some to celebrate the holidays, this year will mean more to Americans than ever. We have a duty to those who are no longer with us to continue on with tradition, because this year we celebrate our life, our liberty and our freedom.
