From the Bleachers
Once again, it is November and that means one thing, it is basketball season. Unlike the past four seasons, this one had some importance to it. If you are a basketball fan like I am, then you will enjoy seeing the NBA get started for what seems to be another exciting year.
Michael Jordan made his return and played quite well. It was 8 p.m., and then it happened. The game that everyone had been waiting for, the New York Knicks vs. the Washington Wizards began, signaling the official start of the season.
Just eight minutes later it happened, ‘his airiness’ made his first shot to finally complete his comeback. But, more so than anything else, basketball was back.
This season seems to have more meaning for a lot of reasons. For instance, will the NBA be able to bring more fans to the games? How will the players react to the league adopting Zone defense? Will Los Angeles win its third straight NBA title?
All of these questions will not be answered in one day, so we as fans must keep up the entire season. Personally, I am a Knicks fan and hope every year that they will finally win the NBA title, but their problem is they buckle under the pressure.
More locally, I am sure everyone is wondering just how good are the Atlanta Hawks going to be? My guess is that if they even compete for a playoff spot, it will be the last one. The Hawks are in a rebuilding stage, but in one or two years they will have a good chance of competing.
Anyway, it is exciting to watch all the teams in the NBA have such high hopes. For example, last year the Dallas Mavericks surprised everyone and made it to the Western Conference finals. This team was supposed to be horrible, but ended up being a threat in the West. Basically, anything is possible, so you really can never underestimate any one team.
Here at Georgia College & State University, our basketball teams have begun their seasons. Basketball games at GC&SU, are not only fun and exciting, they are a must see.
What makes watching our teams worthwhile? Each year here at GC&SU, the Bobcats normally win. Watching teams that you know are going to lose even before they step on the court can lower attendance, but if you have a good team to watch, you feel better as a fan. So come out and watch your basketball teams, and see two great teams in action day in and day out.
Our teams always compete for conference championships, and the games are really good. No, these teams (both NBA and the Bobcats) will not win every game, but one thing can be certain, they will try their best.
So, get hooked on basketball, both locally and nationwide. Just in case you were wondering, my prediction is that the Milwaukee Bucks will beat the Los Angeles Lakers in six games.
