Hotlanta Dixieland Jazz
“When the Saints Go Marching In,” along with other Dixieland jazz singles, will be performed by Hotlanta Dixieland Jazz on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. & 3 p.m. at Georgia College & State University.
“They have the best repertoire, experience and talent to make them the best example of this genre that we could offer this season,” said Tara Butcher, public relations coordinator of Allied Arts.
Hotlanta Dixieland Jazz will play songs from Fats Waller, Hoagy Carmichael, Louie Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, plus many old favorites such as “Sweet Georgia Brown,” “Royal Garden Blues,” “South,” and “Hard Hearted Hannah.”
“They will play Dixieland Jazz like what you would hear on Bourbon Street in New Orleans,” said Butcher. “They play a variety of popular Dixieland Jazz and take requests.”
The group is based out of Atlanta and has performed throughout the south and midwest since Don Erdman founded it in 1990.
“They played in Allen’s Market a couple of times and have been to Milledgeville three or fourth times,” said Brian Renko, program coordinator of Allied Arts. “They will fit well with the theme of Fest Of Ville, especially with the environment and the music.”
This event is free and open to the public because it is part of the Town and Gown Series and part of Fest Of Ville.
“I highly recommend this to all who enjoy jazz,” said Renko. “They are a very talented group.”
“They are excellent and offer the audience a really engaging and spirited performance. Don’t miss this event, because it is some of the best music of its kind in this part of the country,” said Randy Cannon, the executive director of Allied Arts. “I hope folks will come out and see them. They played in Milledgeville before, and they were requested to come back by people. This is an opportunity for them to see the group again or for others to see the group for the first time.”
This event, as well as others, will be featured in Fest Of Ville, which will run on Saturday, Nov. 10 and Sunday, Nov. 11 all day long. If you have any questions about this performance, please contact Allied Arts at 452-3950.
