From the Editors

As the fall semester wraps up, it is amazing to see how fast it has gone by. Throughout all of the confusion that has taken place between registering, midterms and tests, it is important for me to take the time and reflect on how well The Colonnade has preformed this year.

The Colonnade is one of the most functional groups that I have ever been a part of. Every week we come together to produce this paper.

I often sit and wonder what makes people want to work for The Colonnade. What keeps them coming back for more when half of the people that contribute to this paper do not even get paid? Why are they so driven to do something that often goes unrecognized? And then I take a look at this year’s staff.

Over the four years that I have been with this paper, I have seen a variety of Colonnade staffs. I have seen some that have worked well and others that seem to have barely kept it together. This year we just all seem to flow.

With talented work by these people, we have been able to enjoy a semester full of wonderful times and fond memories.

We are a group of dedicated individuals who come together every week, not only to inform you of the news but also to add a valuable contribution to this campus. We spend endless hours every week working on this paper, simply because we care.

Although it may be true that we are a small group, it is also a known fact that 20 percent of the people within an organization usually do 80 percent of the work. We are fortunate to have a group of people who are dedicated and work hard at improving the quality of this paper.

From a conference that I attended last weekend, I was able to see just how well The Colonnade staff really works. During the conference, I was able to compare our paper to other schools’ papers from all over. And I have to tell you that there were some really good and really bad papers. But with every school there was something in common, their paper had its own personality and that personality reflected their staff.

I believe this to be true for The Colonnade. We have a combination of diverse personalities, from staff writers to our photographers. Everyone that works with The Colonnade brings something rich to the paper and that is why this year’s is going so well.

I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone that contributes to the paper. I would like The Colonnade staff to know that this paper would not be the way it is if it were not for you. If it were not for our staff, we would not only not have a paper but also we would not be doing the great things that we have done this year.

I would just like to let the staff know they are doing a great job and the paper looks wonderful. So whenever you are feeling overworked and under paid, always know that you are never unappreciated.
