ANGELS among us

ANGELS (Aids Now Grasps Every Living Soul) is a dominant club on campus at Georgia College and State University. The very name of the club is able to demand attention and peak the curiosity of students and professors alike. But according to Melanie Lynch, club member and event planner for this year’s Aids Ball, the group is doing several things this school year that will help them live up to their celestial reputation.

The ANGELS club here on campus is a branch of the ANGELS foundation, which feeds Aids patients in Macon. The local club does its part in raising Aids awareness around Milledgeville as well.

“This year’s third annual Aids Ball should be one of the most successful to date. The ball will be held on January 11 in the Centennial Center, and all proceeds will go to the ANGELS foundation,” said Lynch.

The club did join several other service organizations on October 25, when it celebrated the annual make A Difference Day by visiting a house in Macon where AIDS patients live. They planted a garden there for the patients to enjoy. They will also be in charge of AIDS Awareness Week in February, which will bring a lot of memorable events.

Another upcoming event that is being heavily anticipated is the club’s recognition of World AIDS Day on November 30. The remembrance of this day will include the Reading of the Names Project, a touching tribute to those who have lost their lives to this treacherous disease.

With so many events already under way, it is sure to be a busy year for GC&SU’s ANGELS. Students who are interested in joining the club can see one of its two advisors, Dr. Amy Burt and Dr. Barbara Funke.

Lynch said joining is quite simple.

“Just come to a meeting. There are no dues.”
