“Gaining Perspective” during International Week
Georgia College & State University is holding its annual International Week from Monday, Oct. 22 through Thursday, Oct. 25.
Both the International Club and various international students on campus provide International Week. International week is held every year to bring an educational environment to not only the community of GC&SU but also to the students from local schools around the Milledgeville area.
Libby Davis, international student advisor, states that in the past International Week has been a great success.
“This is a festive week,” Davis said. “We typically have up to 400 students from elementary school to high school.”
Simon Valderrabano, president of the International Club, states that International Week allows students to see a varity of performances, sports and other activities from an international prospective.
“Visiting students will be able to see performances from international students as well as play sports with them, such as soccer and cricket,” said Valderrabano.
International week is designed for the entire community of GC&SU. Exchange students are being asked to volunteer to speak about their native countries and to discuss various aspects of their economies, such as major exports and agriculture. On Wednesday, Oct. 24, the Consul General of Japan, Toshinao Urabe, will be speaking in the A&S Auditorium from 11a. m. to 1 p.m.
The International Club has made a deal with Sodexho dining services to cater International Day. There will be barbecue for everyone, and students on the meal plan can use their bobcat card to get some barbecue and eat outside instead of in the cafeteria.
On Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., there will be a Study Abroad Fair in the fountain area in front of the Arts & Sciences building.
“We encourage people to see something that they have never seen before,” Valderrabano said.
Tables will be set up to offer information about studying abroad for
various programs to countries such as Costa Rica, England, Germany, Spain, Australia, Greece and many more.
Soumya Nukala,an international student, is very excited about this year’s International Week.
“I think it is a very good way of interacting with other international students and seeing other students to display their talents, Nukala said . “Since we have a lot of panel discussions, it will be a learning experience for everyone.”
