Bobcat Madness starts off GC&SU Basketball season
Something special was in the air this past week at school when Bobcat Madness took place Monday, Oct. 15. With a good amount of fans in attendance, the stage was set for what was a very exciting night at GC&SU’s Centennial Center.
In the women’s scrimmage, the two teams played to a 26-all tie at the end of the 20 minute period. At that moment, both teams got cold from the fields — neither team could score until senior Besty Foy hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to lift the “Blue” team over the “White” team 29-26. Foy finished with a total of eleven points, and sophomore guard Breane Haggard added 10 points for the “Blue” team. For the “White” team, junior Andrea Lee scored a game high 12 points.
In the men’s scrimmage, senior Joseph Harris and sophomore Daryl Ruffus scored eight points apiece for the “Green” team which defeated the “White” team 35-33. Chris Nelson led the “White” team with eight points in the losing effort. Overall, the “Green” team shot 5013-26) from the floor Monday night.
In the Arby’s Three Point Shooting Contest, the Bobcats and Lady Bobcats were tied after the first round, whichboth Ron Hood and Breane Haggard hit eight three pointers apiece. Going into the second round of the contest, both teams knew something had to give. Ivan Bracic put the Bobcats ahead with nine “threes” in the second round. Then came Foy. She had already defeated the “White” team with a “three” at the buzzer, but she wanted to help out all the women in attendance. Who won the contest would determine which gender would walk out with a free Arby’s sandwich. Going 9-19 from the field behind the arch guaranteed both the men and women a tie, but with one second on the clock, Foy’s last shot counted the most as she swished it. With that, every woman in attendance now had bragging rights on the men.
Ben Palmer won the “Dash for Cash” when he totaled 54 dollars in just one minute’s work. The Bobcats will play an exhibition game against Mercer University at the First Presbyterian Day High School in Macon on Monday, November 12th as part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Series.
