The 80′s return to GC&SU
Remember the days of leg warmers, big hair, tight-rolled jeans, and the beginning of MTV and music videos? All this and more is coming to you.
The Campus Activities Board at Georgia College & State University will be sponsoring the award-winning “Barry Drake’s Rock and Roll Lecture” on Monday, Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. in the Arts & Sciences Auditorium.
Barry Drake offers different multimedia presentations that cover different decades. Last February was the first time that one of his lectures was done at GC&SU. He presented “The 60s: When Music Mattered,” a co-sponsorship between CAB and the History Club. This semester he is returning with his lecture on “80′s Rock: Music in the Video Age.”
“With the student response that we received last year, it was not a question of whether or not to bring Barry Drake back but which decade we wanted him to do this time,” Mary-Elizabeth Watson, director of CAB said. “The 80′s presentation was recommended by him because it includes video clips, which are successful with the college students.”
The event last year received the greatest turnout of any of the CAB events.
“The Campus Activities Board is thrilled to be bringing Barry Drake back to our campus,” Watson said. “He was a big hit, last year not only with the students but with several faculty as well.”
The National Association for Campus Activities has voted Barry Drake as the 1995, 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2000 Campus Lecturer of the year. He is considered a “walking encyclopedia of Rock and Roll” and has experience in the world of rock, as he signed on with Capitol Records in 1970 and served as a performer and songwriter.
