`Kool’ changes sports environment
Brown Marshall is not your typical janitor. With a nickname like “Kool,” Marshall just can’t get enough of Georgia College & State University sports.
“I like all of them–baseball, softball, basketball, tennis–and the kids always treat me so good, and I love learning about the kids,” said Kool.
Marshall has been the school janitor for 21 years, and he feels that he has the greatest job in the world. With all the games that Kool can watch for free, it’s no wonder he loves his job.
“All the coaches are really nice to me, and what makes it even better is when that coach’s kids get to know me well,” Marshall said.
Marshall thinks very highly of all the coaches here at GC&SU but wants no part when it comes to coaching. He feels that there is so much work when it comes to coaching . and/or even being a player, that the enjoyment level would not be there.
Girls Basketball coach John Carrick said about Kool, “He is loyal, always pulls for the good guys, and he is very knowledgeable of all the players over the last ten years, maybe not by name but by number. Some of my players that know Kool love him, and he is always so positive.”
Kool loves being around all the fans, coaches, and the total sports environment. Kool’s favorite games are any ones that goes into overtime or extra innings.
“To me that is when you can see if someone can play or not,” said Marshall. “When the game is on the line, and you are up by one, you can get to see whether or not your defense is good enough to hold for the win.”
Kool mentioned that all of the teams have not yet started to play, but he thinks that all of the teams are going to be pretty good.
“I would love to see our teams win all of the championships. It is not impossible; we have good enough players and coaches here that we can accomplish this,” said Marshall.
Whether or not Kool is right about the Bobcats winning all the championships this season is still unsure. But one thing is for sure, if you do not know who “Kool” is, then you are just not cool.
