Adopt-A-Grandparent sponsors GC&SU Bingo

Students from Georgia College & State University and residents from Dogwood Retirement Home joined together Monday for a time of fellowship while playing several rounds of bingo.

The Adopt-A-Grandparent program is an organization that pairs college students with residents at the retirement home. The program sponsored the event.

Rachel Lloyd serves as the student coordinator for the program. She first got involved last year as the co-coordinator with Lori Stanley, who got the program back on its feet.

“I love this program. The residents at Dogwood have so much love to give,” Lloyd said. “It is a great program because not only does it benefit the residents, the students who go get so much from it, also. It is like having a grandparent away from home.”

The co-coordinators for the group are Virginia Hayes and Chinna Vang.

“We are here to provide fellowship for the elderly. Tonight we’re playing bingo, which they love to play,” Hayes said.

Adopt-A-Grandparent will have more monthly activities in which students can get involved. Their next meeting is on Oct. 16 at 4:15 in the GIVE Center. For more information, students can contact Rachel Lloyd at 445-5700.
