Sassy cats ready to dance
The Georgia College & State University dance team, also know as the Sassy Cats, is ready to begin a very exciting season this year.
The season officially opened on October 15, and will run all year. Hopefully , the season will end in March with a victory at the Nationals competition. They perform at different competitions throughout the year and during the half time shows at basketball games.
Bonnie Bigler, who all the dancers agree is an excellent coach, coaches the Sassy cats.
Freshman Jessica Deal said, “She is such an awesome coach, she works us really hard while making it fun, too.”
This is Deal’s first time on a dance team, and she is filled with excitement just to be a part of the team.
The captains for this year are Amanda Williams and Heather Alexander.
The dance team practices every night, Monday through Thursday, for two hours. They usually start off each practice with some running and conditioning, to improve their stamina and endurance. After the conditioning they spend time working to improve their steps, and to work on their routines.
The Sassy Cats are well-trained dancers, and they are used to dancing to a wide variety of music. They dance to hip-hop, Latin, jazz and pop in their different routines. They also use a lot of mixture in the music styles during other routines.
The team has very high expectations this year. They were Peach Belt Conference champions in 2000 and runners-up in the conference last season. The dance team has already set some strong goals for this year that they will have to work extra hard to achieve. These goals include another first place finish in the Peach Belt Conference championship, and to make a very strong showing in Nationals.
When asked why people should come and check out the dance team, some of the girls put it best when they said, “Because we are just the Bomb!
