New running club forming in town

Dr. John Hogg is a Radiologist for Washington County Regional Medical and Jefferson Hospitals, but he has a dream for Milledgeville runners.

Hogg, an experienced runner who has ran in marathons and road races, and he feels that it is time to start a running club.

“We are inviting people of all ages and all different running levels to come and run with us; around town there are a lot of people who run. All the students and all the people who live here otherwise,” said Hogg.

This organization plans to meet at Buffington’s every Thursday at 6 p.m. This is a good location because it is downtown and most people know where it is. With this type of organization people can easily interact with other runners; a lot of other towns have this organizations and have enjoyed great success. Many of these gatherings will include some tips on how to stay away from injuries such as shin splits.

Plans are to divide into three groups and branch out into different parts of Milledgeville. There will be different amounts of running for each group. The first group will run a mile, the second will run three miles, and the third group will run five miles. Each group will have someone to lead the three divisions, which will help all the runners pace themselves. The good thing about all of this is that even if you are just starting to run you can go and run/walk a mile until you get good enough to run the full mile.

” So many people actually enjoy running around here that I think this organization will work out well for runners,” said Hogg.

This should be a fun experience for anyone who wants to learn more about running, from clothing, shoe attire, running conditions and road races.

” The eventual plan is to have a few road races for next year because Milledgeville is such a pretty town and so close together that you can look at some good scenery,” Hogg said. “If you just realized that you haven’t been able to run for awhile, this would be a good time to start up again.”
