As college students, we often feel that we are invincible and that nothing bad will ever happen to us; that is why it is always important to stay informed about cancer.
However, we are fortunate to attend a university that has organizations that are committed to making students aware of cancer.
This upcoming week is ‘Think Pink Week,’ in which many organizations are taking a part in informing students about breast cancer. The GIVE Center, Phi Mu, Colleges Against Cancer, Adopt-A-Grandparent and Gamma Sigma Sigma, along with many other organizations, will be around campus selling items during `Think Pink Week.’ All of the proceeds will then be donated to the American Cancer Society and to the three students walking in the Avon 3-Day walk.
It is important for you to know that breast cancer can affect anyone at any age and at any time. From children with leukemia to college students, cancer is something that affects everyone.
If you have a family member or know anyone with cancer, the best thing for you to do is show support. Always have faith and know that one day they too may be a survivor.
Breast cancer can be detected at an early stage; it increases with age; it can not yet be prevented; and if detected early, breast cancer can be treated effectively.
Although it is a fact that 1200 people die each day from cancer, it is also a fact that over two million breast cancer survivors are alive in America today.
