Bobcat runners lead team to finish line

Bethany Loushine has proven her talent once again by setting the second best women’s 5K time in Georgia College & State University’s history.

Loushine now holds the first and second place times in the women’s 5K for GC&SU. The talented young Bobcat set the new school record at a time of 20:53, coming in 11th place at the Pre-Conference meet hosted by Clayton College & State University this past Saturday. The Lady Bobcats went on to finish fourth out of a field of 13 teams with a total team score of 147.

Loushine led the pack with a time of 20:53. Karen Hjelmeland finished 26th with a time of 22:32, followed closely by Kristina Tittle, who came in 30th with a time of 22:39. Lilia Biktyakova came in 38th with a time of 23:18 just ahead of Jamila Radford, who finished 42nd with a time of 23:49. Barely squeezing past Kennasaw State University’s team score of 56, Valdosta State University took the women’s 5K first place prize with a total team score of 54.

Morgan Stallings ran the fifth fastest time in school history as the Bobcat men finished seventh out of 11 teams. Stallings came in with an impressive 28:26 time and finished 24th in the 8K race. J.R. Black, who finished 26th, followed closely behind him with a time of 28:35. Will Hill came in 34th with a time of 29.39. Noah Sword’s time of 32:15 earned him the 47th place; he was followed by Will Cleghorn, who rounded the top 5 in 50th place with a time of 32:30. Kennasaw State blew the field away with the top four finishers and five in the top ten, and the top finisher of the race was their own Gediminus Banevicius. Banevicius led the 8K race with a time of 25:34.

The meet was definitely one of consistency. Both Kennesaw State and Clayton State finished in the top three or better in both races. Kennesaw State placed second in the women’s 5K with a team score of 56 and blew the competition away in the men’s 8K, taking home the first place trophy. Clayton State must have liked having the home advantage. They finished third in both races, posting a team score of 66 in the women’s 5K and an 84 in the men’s 8K.

The Bobcat’s next meet will take place Sunday, Sept. 30, at the Stonehill Invitational in Easton, MA.
