Beauregard leads tennis team
Alex Beauregard is returning to compete for one of the top doubles slots for this year’s Georgia College &State University’s Men’s Tennis team.
Beauregard, a returning sophomore, came to GC&SU last year from Charny, Quebec, Canada, he attended and graduated from Polyvalente de Leuis High School. While in Canada he participated in a tennis club called Club Action for 5 years. Last year, he was a member of the Peach Belt Presidential Honor Roll. Beauregard finished last year with deceiving singles (6-11) and doubles (8-12) records.
The GC&SU’s tennis teams play in one of the most competitive and challenging conferences in the country. Despite his record from last year, Beauregard is looking forward to the upcoming season.
“I have improved my strength; I feel I am more powerful,” said Beaureguard. “I want to have a good season with a .500 record and to be ranked in doubles.”
Beaureguard has shown a lot of improvement in the off-season, according to Head Coach Steve Barsby.
“He’s worked really hard during the off-season, and he’s looking to do very well in doubles. The only problem right now with Alex is he needs to be more consistent, but that can change during the season,” said Barsby.
Beaureguard stated that there were a few differences between the coaching he received in Canada and here at GC&SU.
“There the coaches were more involved with you, but here we are more on our own; we have more freedom to improve our game,” said Beaureguard.
In the Georgia College & State University/Alltel First Annual Regional Fall Classic, Beaureguard finished 2-2 in singles and 2-1 in doubles with partner Mikael Pettersson. The team made it to the semi-finals of the tournament.
The men’s team lost their best player last year. Beaureguard can help the younger players with pressures and their performance level on the court and, most importantly, with team unity.
Beaureguard and a fresh team of young athletes are looking to better their performance from one year ago. The goals Beaureguard has for himself are just part of the overall team goals that are set in each one of the players’ minds.
“Our first goal is to have a high ranking, at least in the teens,” said Beauregard. “Our second goal is to do really well in Regionals. We also want to have a .500 or better record this year.”
The GC&SU’s Men’s Tennis Team’s next tournament is the NCAA Men’s South Fall Regional to be held in Savannah on October 5-7.
