Volleyball getting started for women

There is now good news for all women interested in playing volleyball at Georgia College & State University. After two seasons of only men’s volleyball at GC&SU, the women will finally get their turn to play.

So, if you are a female student here at GC&SU and are interested in volleyball, your opportunity has arrived. The men and women both practice on Wednesdays and Sundays at the GC&SU Centennial Center. The practice times are from 6p.m. to 8p.m. and from 8p.m. to 10p.m., with the men and women swapping practice times.

There will be two tournaments; one will be held October 6th at Appalachian State University, and the second tournament will be held sometime in November.

Julie Baumeister, a member of GC&SU’s volleyball team, seemed very excited about this upcoming season. When she was in high schoo, she tried out for the volleyball team for the first time in her tenth grade year, made the varsity team that year, and has been enjoying playing volleyball ever since.

“If you want to learn about volleyball, all the positions on the court, and how to correctly hit the ball, you should come to one of our practices,” said Baumeister.

There are six people on the court at all times, and they rotate in and out of the action. So there are plenty of chances for you to see some action on the court if you want to play.

The team would like to encourage any female interested in playing to come out now while they are still going over the basics. Practices, which begin at 6p.m. and 10p.m, are held every Wednesday and Sunday.
