Shuttle bus convenience
Georgia College & State University offers a shuttle service from the Centennial Center parking lot to all of the major buildings on campus. Students ride the shuttle bus everyday, and most of them don’t know the people who are driving them around.
E.J. Harrelson is a student here. He hasn’t been using the bus to get to classes; he has been driving it for three years now.
“I am retired, and I am a student here,” said Harrelson. “The bus runs from 7:30a.m. until 3:30p.m., so I take classes that start after 3:30.”
Harrelson is not the only member of his family that has attended GC&SU.
“I have six kids, and four of them came to school here,” said Harrelson. “One of my daughters also teaches here now.”
Harrelson enjoys driving the bus for the students.
“If it wasn’t for the students, I wouldn’t drive. Without them it is boring,” said Harrelson. “I would just go around the campus in circles by myself.”
Mikael Pettersson is a sophomore, but this is his first year using the shuttle.
“I live in the Colonial Village, which is behind Centennial. It’s a long walk, so whenever I get a chance, I ride the bus,” said Pettersson.
Emma Monopoli lives in Napier, and she is a freshman. Monopoli tried the bus for the first time on Wednesday.
“This is my first time,” said Monopoli. “I just like walking, and I guess it helps keep off the freshman 15. Today I just happened to be in a rush.”
The shuttle runs Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. It makes an average of five trips an hour, which is about every 12 to 15 minutes. The next time parking is giving you problems, try taking the shuttle bus from the Centennial Center.
