Professor honored with book signing, reception

Georgia College & State University honors one of its professors with a book signing, followed by a reception commemorating the accomplishments of David Muschell.

WWJD-What Would Jesus Do?

Playwright David Muschell takes this question to a whole new level in his latest play. In “The Jesus Trip”, the main character decides to give the “Jesus idea” a real try; he gives up his job, car, and VCR and goes out on the streets to minister.

“It’s a comedy with an underlying serious message,” Muschell said. “That even today, we’d probably still crucify someone like this, if not literally, at least socially.”

Another of his plays, “The Golden Nest,” “is a children’s play about the perils of vanity.” Aside from these two works, Muschell has had eight plays published. His work has won four national and five regional awards. He’s also been produced in twenty-three states, as well as Canada and Japan.

When speaking of play writing, Muschell said it is unique.

“Think about being in theatre and actually hearing his or her laughter or tense silence or tears; it’s a very different experience than most writers have,” Muschell said.

Muschell has been at GC&SU for twelve years now and really enjoys teaching.

“I love this place.my students are great inspiration,” Muschell said.

The book signing and reception will be held Friday, Sept. 28, at 4 p.m. in GC&SU Visitors Center.

The reception is being held to celebrate Muschell having recently completed his Master of Fine Arts degree from Goddard College in Vermont. It is also to honor him in the success of his award-winning play Surf, a play about life in Internet chat rooms.
