The Voice

A BIG reality check hit America Tuesday when terrorists
hijacked four commercial airplanes and decided the fate of thousands of human beings.

Speculation about who did this act of remarkable evil is all
over the news, but the fact remains, terrorism is alive and well.
The magnitude of this is overwhelming, and we ponder, as Americans, could this have been avoided, and did America’s intelligence agencies fail us as citizens?

This historic event, which occured on Sept. 11, is being compared to Pearl
Harbor, and some claim it is a definite act of war. On a smaller scale here in Milledgeville, students were glued to CNN all morning with breaks for what was thought to be a full day of classes.

Georgia College & State University made a great choice in
canceling classes Tuesday. We faced a state of confusion and great mourning within our country, and no one’s top priority was English or Biology. This fact was apparent when the suicide forum that was scheduled changed at the request of approximately 80 students and faculty to discuss terrorism and how to cope with it.

Also, our school has placed on its info.gcsu.edu page updates
on what we can do to help all the victims of this massacre.

Our hearts go out to all the families involved. Tuesday innocent lives were lost for no reason. Sadly, we learned Tuesday that America is not invincible, but what we must gain from this is that life is precious. We should count our blessings every day, live every day to the fullest and be thankful to be alive.
