From the Editors

Tuesday the nation was in a state of emergency as it watched three of its landmark buildings collapse from a burning fire, burying thousands of people alive.

The Twin Towers of the World Trade Center fell from 1,330ft high to the streets of Manhattan island.

Two planes crashed into the side of the buildings, causing a massive fire to erupt on the sides of the towers.

With a population of over 40,000 workers and 80,000 visitors, the World Trade Center suffered a devastating number of deaths and an overwhelming amount of property damage, bringing the nation to a halt.

Shortly after, a hijacked plane in Pennsylvania crashed into the ground, killing everyone aboard. It seems to me that the people along this flight desperately tried to save the lives of others instead of their own.

What saddens me the most is the amount of innocent lives that were lost and the overwhelming sense of celebration that the Palestinians felt.

Americans saw with their own eyes that terrorism is alive and real. It is scary to know that the terrorists were able to hijack 4 planes and destroy several buildings without even being suspected.

However, it is refreshing to know that throughout all of the events that occurred in New York, Americans are pulling together to get through the disaster. The citizens are truly showing respect for the nation by not looting or rioting.

Above all, we are fortunate to be a part of a university that pulls together in a time of need. To the students, faculty and staff of GC&SU, I would like to thank you for your efforts in supporting the nation during its time of need.

I think President Bush said it best when he stated that Tuesday was “a violation of our freedom.” September 11, 2001 will be a day forever remembered in history as a day the nation mourned for its lost and wondered what went wrong.

The impact of this incident will stay with every American forever. The same state that bares the symbol of our freedom was threatened. Lady Liberty stood proud on Liberty Island as she grieved for her lost and cried for her nation.
