Remembering a GC&SU student
A Georgia College & State University student took his own life on the morning of Sept. 5, according to the incident report filed with GC&SU Campus Police.
The student, Scott Hobgood, was found dead at approximately 2:15 to 2:20 a.m. at 401 W. Montgomery St., university officials said Wednesday. Hobgood was found in his room at his residence, and campus safety said he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Campus police were called to the scene when it was determined that Hobgood was a student at GC&SU.
“He was a good young man.this really bothers me personally. This is tragic, not only for the KA’s, but for the university and especially for his family,” said Ken Vance, the director of GC&SU Public Safety.
Hobgood was an active member of Kappa Alpha and was 20 years old at the time of his death. He was interested in becoming a law enforcement officer and frequently visited the campus police.
“He would come down and we’d talk, and I would give him some advice on his career choices,” Vance said. “He was a nice young man.”
