GC&SU virtual campus map can be viewed worldwide
The campus of Georgia College & State University may now be viewed from anywhere in the world through a virtual tour on the Internet.
The tour consists of panoramic views from several popular points on campus, such as the Governor’s Mansion, the Cellar and Arts & Sciences Auditorium, and is intended solely to better market the school to prospective students.
“We were able to get a good mix of pictures,” said Mitch Clarke, the Associate Director of University Relations, who headed the project.
The office of university relations chose each viewpoint in the hope that they would help the viewer truly grasp what campus life is really about here at GC&SU.
The tour is provided by Edamerica, a private company that provides loans for students and their families, who approached the school with the opportunity sometime last year. The tour cost GC&SU absolutely nothing, a pretty reasonable price for this quality of advertisement.
“I am very impressed,” said Clarke.
As he viewed the tour on his computer, Clarke was asked if he had any disappointments in the tour.
“The pictures do not have any students in them. The shots were taken during the summer, and, as you know, this place is pretty much deserted,” said Clarke.
The school plans to add a few more sites to the tour this fall, such as Russell Auditorium and the athletic facilities. The college also plans to produce their own, much more detailed and interactive tour of the campus, but that is a few years away.
