Bobcat Classic tees off again
Another school year rolls around, and once again The Bobcat Classic is looking like this year could be its best ever. So, come September 5, when the sun comes up, people will be all over the golf course.
With hopes to raise in between $13,000-$15000 this year, everyone seems to be ready for next Monday. How exciting would it be to see yourself at the golf course instead of the work office?
Entry fees are as follows $125 a person or if you have a team member that is really generous, then $500 for the whole team. Even though the price is a little high, there will be prizes at many of the holes for which all of the golfers may participate. There are four members on each team, and the format is a 4-man, 18-hole scramble, which is four men hitting the ball from the same location and playing the best ball throughout the day. The tournament will have a shotgun start at 8 a.m. for the morning golfers and a 1 p.m. start for the afternoon golfers. Like last year, this year will also have 3 flights, and so the field is pretty much wide open for anyone to win.
“Anyone can play in this tournament, and we are really trying to encourage women to play. Last year we had six to eight women play, and we are hoping for more women to turn out this year,” said Dr. Stan Alridge, the college’s Athletic Director.
With this year’s being the ninth tournament, the school has gotten the biggest sponsors in the history of this event. The big three sponsors are Sodexho, Fowler Flemister Concrete, and Coca-Cola; each of these is giving $2500 towards the tournament. If a company wants to sponsor a hole, it is just $100, and the hole is yours for the day.
All the money that the tournament gets goes directly to the scholarship program, in which scholar athletes who have a GPA higher than 3.2 and a SAT score of more than 1100 receive this. Currently twenty-three students at Georgia College & State University, have this.
The location of the tournament is at Milledgeville Country Club and something the golf course always looks forward to.
“Volunteers are always neede;, we are looking to have 75 -100 people who want to help. If you decide to help out, you will have a great time and will be at the golf course all day; how fun is that?” said Alridge.
One of the things that will be so nice about this tournament is how much of a relaxing day it will be. If you want to enjoy a nice day off and enjoy making great memories, then come out to the golf course and let the good times come to you.
